Peter Strevens is a graduate of University College, London, where he did postgraduate research in pho-netics under Professor Dániel Jones. He has been Head of the Department of Phonetics at the University of Ghana, a member of the staff of the School of Applied Linguistics at Edinburgh University, Professor of Contemporary English af Leeds University, and is cur-rently Professor of Applied Linguistics and Director of the Language Centre at the University of Essex.
Professor Strevens is the author of numerous articles on phonetics, contemporary English language, teach-ing English as a second language, applied linguistics, and modern methods of language teaching.
