Have a Happy Stay in Florence ! It is my belief that all those who visit a city for the first time ívish to gain, in little time and money, as accurate impressions as possible to keep as souvenirs. However, this is not a simple thing to do in those rare centres which - like Florence - have given shape to ages, refined or completed the history of the world, through works expressed in an atmosphere of almost miraculous continuity and perfection. In places such as Florence it does not suffice to give a panoramic glancé, but it is indispensable to look analytically and to classify the works of art. Only thus can one fully appreciate its beauty and proportions. It is with this booky reduced in size but containing all essential facts and comments concerning Florence, that I wish to introduce you to this city. It is here where, from the XII century until late in the Renaissance and to our day, art and science have produced its greatest geniuses. In its chiaroscuri which reveal at each instant manifestations and phenomena that are unique in poiver and character Florence presents itself to you with all its unmistakable personality. This city is rendered all the more suggestive by its splendid lights and sweet shades which will be described in this book alsó containing its lights and shades.
