Tuberculosis strikes one person in the United States every ten minutes-kiiis one person every 60 minutes . . . startiing statistics in a day when much of the civilized world believes it is weil on the way toward conquering the disease. Today childhood tuberculosis is not the widely destructive force it was at one time but in many areas its mortality and morbidity are still tragically high. The tuberculin test and antituberculosis drugs are the most effective tools in the eradication of tuberculosis in children. But technical knowledge alone of tests and drugs is not sufficient in the drive to prevent and cure tuberculosis.
