This book does not seek any sensational effect nor does it pretend to be an exhaustive study of the themes and aspects of a country as complex and varied as Ecuador. Its only intention is to gather together, by means of rare photographs and the scientific studies of an équipe of experts, the most salient points of the human, natural and geological history of this country, before the coming of other and much more dangerous technological « colonizations » throws into oblivion irretrievable traditions.
This book has, on the other hand, a goal: that of stimulating, even within the limits of conflicting dialectics, probing researches and studies dealing with the themes of human and natural ecology of which Ecuador, due to its very particular characteristics, may be taken as a model to imitate.
