GEORGE GROSZ
ECCE HOMO
100 DRAWINGS, INCLUDING 16 IN FULL COLOR
This book contains 100 drawings, inchiding 16 in full color, by the accomplished draftsman and master satirist, George Grosz (1893-1959). Originally published in 1923 but suppressed at that time, this book is Grosz's masterwork, an unsparing vision of human nakedness, lust, greed and cruelty. The 16 watercolors included in this volume reveal the artist's perception with particular clarity.
Containing works from 1915 through 1922, this collection shows Grosz's response to a society dislocated by the horrors of the First World War. He depicts the confusion and frightened hedonism of the German people, as well as their anger and yearnings for normality, in such incisive works as "Scene from Youthful Days," "Esthetic Evening on Motzstrasse," "Disrobing," "Ecce Homo," "The White Slaver," "Dedicated to Professor Freud," "Private Room in a Fancy Restaurant," "Melancholy," "Flirtation Time," "Dr. Benn's Nightspot," and...
