Twenty years after its first publication. Dynamic Aspects remains one of the most successful University textbooks on biochemistry as an independent scientific discipline; new editions have appeared at approximately five-yearly intervals and it has been translated into seven languages.
The fifth edition is a worthy successor to previous ones and is the result of a major revision. The basic features are preserved— the concentration on general principles, with only so many details as are required to illustrate and exemplify them—^but the format, the detail and the exposition have been modified.
Major editorial features of the revision are the rewriting of the chapter on the metabolism of fats (especially in relation to the biosynthesis of lipids and fatty acids), the inclusion of more discussion of biotin-de-pendent and tetrahydrofolate-dependent and other enzymes (especially one-carbon metabolism), the expansion and reorganisation of the chapters on nucleotides and nucleic acids to give an account of protein synthesis, and the incorporation of newer views on the citric acid cycle. In addition, a great many smaller changes have been made throughout the text to bring it up to date.
The book has been reset throughout in a larger format, making for better display of the more complex diagrams, all of which have been redrawn. Vissza
