It is a tribute to Dubai that one of the world's greatest photographers has collaborated with Motivate Publishing to produce this unique book. Lord Lichfield's images convey the diversity of Dubai which, as well as being one of the world's fastest growing and most dynamic cities, has retained its intrinsic sense of heritage and culture.

During his many trips to Dubai, Patrick Lichfield took the opportunity to photograph people from all walks of life, at work as well as at play. The result, Dubai - A City Portraitj is a true portrait of a vibrant, cosmopolitan city, an emirate and its people.
Patrick Lichfield's photography has spanned four decades of change. His iconic images from the early 1960s to the present day, include notable personalities and events that characterised their times.
A cousin of Queen Elizabeth, The Earl of Lichfield, launched himself as a photographer in 1962. He soon progressed from photographing London's party set to editorial work for national daily newspapers. Success in notable London magazines, such as the highly influential Queen magazine, led to commissions from Life, Vogue and Vanity Fair magazines in the United States.
Since that time, his pictures - ranging from formal and informal portraits, including many members of royalty as well as celebrities, prominent figures from the world of fashion and beauty to high profile advertising - have become well known around the world.
In recent years, Patrick Lichfield has been a frequent visitor to Dubai, a destination he admires and enjoys and one which certainly provides a wealth of fascinating subjects for his camera. Dubai—A City Portrait is the outcome of these visits; it is a rich study of one of the world's most dynamic and fastest growing cities.


The Earl of Lichfield was educated at ^^ Harrow and the Royal Military Academy,
Sandhurst, after which he served for several years as an officer in the Grenadier Guards. In 1960 he inherited his grandfather's Earldom and, soon after, left the Army and became a photographer.
Commissions for Queen, Vhnity Fair, Life and American U)gue preceded his work for a number of large international companies including Burberrys, Dunlop, Epson, Olympus, Unipart and White Horse. Patrick Lichfield has also had the opportunity to photograph the British and many European Royal families, politicians, notable actors and actresses and sportsmen during his remarkable career.
Lord Lichfield has never lost his passion for photography, from his early darkroom days to the current digital revolution, which he has embraced wholeheartedly.
