In 1981, a new regime began to build the finest cars ever to carry the McLaren name and in 1984 with the new Porsche-engineered TAG Turbo engines, Niki Lauda and Alain Prost were able to win a staggering 12 of the 16 World Championship rounds. Niki won the Drivers' Championship byjust halfa point from his team-mate, but in 1985 and 1986 Prost became the first man since Jack Brabham in 1959-60 to achieve back-to-back Drivers' Championship titles. In 1987, Alain brokejackie Stewart's long-standing record of 27 GP wins to emerge as the most successful World Championship F1 driver of all time - all this in McLaren cars.
