In Dogs, Peggy Roalf leads readers on a personal gallery tour of nineteen favourite paintings of dogs. From the work of an anonymous twelfth-century Spanish artist to such well-known painters as Francisco de Goya and George Stubbs, each persons vision and interpretation of dogs is unique. Marie Laurencin, a friend of Pablo Picasso's, included the Spanish artist and his mischievous dog, Frika, in Group of Artists. Inspired by African tribal art, Laurencin simplified the portraits into mask-like faces defined with bold oudines. Edward Hopper drew from his memory to create die remote couple and dieir collie in his painting tided Cape Cod Evening.
