For decades the Worldwide Church of God had been known for its adherence to many Old Testament sabbath-keeping laws, speculation about the "Ten Lost" tribes of Israel, unorthodox views on the Trinity and strict lifestyle requirements. Now they have begun to encounter new covenant Christianity and its gospel of salvation by grace through faith.
How did this transformation take place? Who were the key movers and shapers of these changes? What obstacles did they face? How have these changes been received by the rest of the Christian community? What challenges yet remain? And what lessons can all of us learn from this extraordinary episode in church history? Here is the nearly unprecedented story of a religious body turning away from its unorthodox beliefs and toward historic Christianity.
Larry Nichols is a church histórián with an M.Div. from Yale. He is pastor of Our Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church in Greenville, Rhode Island, serves as chaplain at Rhode Island College and teaches philosophy at the Community College of Rhode Island.

Currently pastor of Sherman Oaks Lutheran Church in Califomia, he is a popular speaker and coauthor (with Larry Nichols) of two other books, the Dictionary ofCults, Sects, Religious and the Occult and Masonic Lodge (Zondervan).
