This journal contains original research papers by contributors in the U.K. and abroad. It treats not only the basic operations of chemical engineering, but also the theoretical principles which rule them. It is therefore of interest to chemical engineers, physical chemists and the chemical industry.
"Two conditions must be fulfilled for a newcomer to be regarded as a journal of importance: the first is that the contents must be of high quality; and the second is that it serves as a medium for publishing work which might not otherwise reach those to whom it is of interest. "Two conditions must be fulfilled for a newcomer to be regarded as a journal of importance: the first is that the contents must be of high quality; and the second is that it serves as a medium for publishing work which might not otherwise reach those to whom it is of interest. As regards the first requirement, there can be little doubt of its fulfilment by chemical engineering science. . . . The second requirement may also be regarded as met. . . . British chemical engineers . . . will particularly welcome this new and valuable (publication) and wish (it) every success."—{Nature)

This book meets the need for a comprehensive and up-to-date textile dictionary in German and English. Its aim is to provide a source for the current terminology in textile technology, industry and trade.
It comprises the most widely used terms in the various textile industries and allied fields and in arranging the material the chief aims have been clarity and convenience, avoiding cross references as far as possible.
On the assumption that users of the dictionary have a working knowledge of both languages concerned, no references to grammar are made, and only the genders of German substantives are indicated. In general British orthography has been used; specifically American terms are indicated.
Technical and trade expressions which are in general use are not always grammatically correct. In such cases the customary term has been chosen at the expense of grammatical exactitude. Moreover, textile technical terminology has not yet been standardized. Many terms may acquire difi'erent meaning according to locality or trade. Doubtful cases have been decided by selecting the terms adopted in the majority of publications in that particular field. Indications in brackets, stating the special field of application, have been added where their omission might have given rise to misunderstanding.
This handy work of reference should have a great appeal to the chemist, the dyer, the exporter and all persons concerned with textiles, dyestuffs and synthetic products.
