Dr. Adrijana Car studied Geodesy in Zagreb and Graz, and earned her doctorate In Geographic Information Science in 1997 in Vienna with a thesis on hierarchical spatial reasoning. She worked on GIS-related projects and her diploma thesis research at the Dept. of Mathematical Geodesy and Geoinformatics at the University of Technology Graz; was research and teaching assistant at the Dept. of Geoinformation at the University of Technology Vienna, guest lecturer at the School of Information Sciences, University of Pittsburgh, Lecturer at the Dept. of Geomatics, University of Newcastle upon Tyne, and Head of the School of Geoinformation at Fach-hochschule Technikum Kärnten. Currently Dr Car coordinates international UNIGIS distance learning programs at Centre for Geoinformatics (Z GIS) at Salzburg University (2005 - now) and is senior scientist at the Institute of GIScience, Austrian Academy of Sciences (2007 - now). Her research focuses on hierarchy as method of efficient selection of spatial data; formal descriptions of spatial inferences using hierarchies; conceptualization and formalization of space and time. Dr. Car is further interested in problem-based learning and online distance education in GIScience & Technology as well as quality assurance aspects in higher education.
Gerald Griesebner, M. A., is a graduate of the Department of Geography and Applied Geoinformatics at the Salzburg University, Austria. Helsa member of the AGIT symposium organizing committee since 1996 and is in charge of the geoinformatics infrastructure at the Salzburg University's Centre for Geoinformatics {Z_GIS). His research focuses on image analysis and geodata capture using GPS and photogrammetry.
The Centre for Geoinformatics at Salzburg University and the Institute for GIScience, Austrian Academy of Sciences offer an annual forum to the worldwide geoinformatics community, bringing together English-speaking researchers and practitioners across disciplines and industries. At the same time the Geoinformatics Forum Salzburg (GI_Forum 2010) connects participants into a well established co-located regional symposium - Applied Geoinformatics (AGIT) - sharing the state-of-the art AGIT-EXPO exhibit.
GI_Forum 2010 focuses on an international audience that shares an interest in applied Geoinformatics. We successfully attracted researchers who design, develop and apply advanced methods and techniques of Geoinformatics in a broad range of application domains. In the GI_Forum 2010 proceedings the contributions focus on the following topics:
• GIScience - Concepts and Ontologies
• Advances in Spatial Analysis, Geovisualization and Cartography
• Spatial Data Infrastructure
• Mobile GIS and Location Based Services
• Digital Terrain Representation and Analysis
• Vulnerability: Spatial Assessment and Analysis
Already for the fourth year in a row we succeeded to attract a number of contributions specifically pertaining to themes of Monitoring and Modelling Global Change, Digital Cities and Sustainable Urban Environments.
Prof. Dr. Josef StrobI is director of Z GIS at the University of Salzburg. He obtained his PhD in Geography from the University of Vienna. Prof. StrobI is a full member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and director of the Institute for GIScience, Austrian Academy of Sciences. He is the founder of UNIGIS Salzburg and chair of the UNIGIS International Association; visiting and honorary professor at several international universities; current president of the Austrian Umbrella Organisation for Geographic Information (AGEO) and serving as board member at various international organisations, e.g. on the Board of Directors of the GSDI Association.
