Rembrandt, one of the greatest painters of ail times, was also a great teacher. Although his studio was not an art school in the present meaning of the term, it offered an opportunity for many young artists to become ac-quainted with the master's style and artistic approach. This impressive series of the pu-pils' works is crowned by the master himself : no less than four paintings, either completely original or painted together with one or the other of his pupils, are reproduced in this volume. In a study Agnes Czobor high-lights the essential features of the emergence of the Rembrandt circle as well as the development of the noteworthy artists who com-prised it.
