Trade-signs were the distinguishing and beckoning emblems of inns, craftsmen and tradesmen. As a subject for research, they belong equally to cultural history, mercantile history, arts and crafts, and folk-art. André Csatkai, an established and widely respected authority on cultural history and art history introduces these romantic relics of old Hungárián crafts and trades in colourful, readable prose.
