" I have witnessed and joined in the minor and major series of change facilitating rituals marking the daily, weekly, monthly and annual activities of this community. My life, likethoseof my fellow community members, has been governed by the linear, cyclic and carnivalesque time and space organization of Komló. Like Ariid Thomassen, my late friend and sociological investigator par excellance of a comparable therapeutic community in Norway, I have learned to see my community as revolving around a series of social dramas involving actors who perform with and against each other. These dramas, I hove learned to see, reflect Komló's therapeutically constructed activities. Each of the many dramas, small and large, I have observed and often participated in has its own invisible social script dependent upon actors performing the roles the recovery program requires of them.
