Fülszöveg
This series of lectures on cosmic radiation was
prepared as an anniversary volume dedicated to
Arnold Sommerfeld. On the very day which the
book was intended to commemorate, and before
many copies had been distributed, bombs fell on
Berlin, destroying the plates and the entire stock
of printed volumes.
The present translation has been prepared from
one of the few copies to reach this country, in
order to make the material available to American
physicists.
Although the fifteen articles are written by
several authors, the material is well integrated
with numerous cross-references and a consistent
notation. The lectures present a general survey
of recent accomplishments and as yet unsolved
problems in a branch of physics which is bound
to attract many workers in the next few years.
TABLE OF CONTENTS
Introduction: Review of the present state of
our knowledge of cosmic radiation.
Cascades: The cascade theory. The large air
showers.
Mesons: The creation of mesons....
