Collins COBUILD English Course represents a major advance in the teaching of English. It is based on the research findings of the COBUILD project at Birmingham University - the same research which produced the acclaimed Collins COBUILD English Language Dictionary. It focuses on the real English students will encounter and need to use in today's world.
There are three levels, taking students up to pre-First Certificate standard.
Book 3 is for intermediate adult learners. Twenty-four units will provide about 100 hours of class work.
¦ The syllabus builds on knowledge of the 1,550 words from Levels 1 and 2, and introduces a further 950 frequently used words.
H Students continue to discover recurring features of the language by analysing samples of real English.
¦ Regular 'Grammar' sections focus on important grammatical areas at sentence level and above.

I : A wide cross-section of real texts promotes reading for pleasure, as well as developing functional reading skills. Word study boxes alongside texts encourage students to be selective in their vocabulary building.
¦ The challenging listening material includes a series of interviews with native speakers talking about their life and work.
¦ An added emphasis on the written form of the language reflects the need for exam related study at this level.
A set of cassettes accompanies the Course, and the texts of the unscripted recordings are included in a special transcript booklet at the back of the Student's Book. The Practice Book provides further reading and writing exercises for use in or out of class. The Teacher's Book gives practical guidance and support on all aspects of the Course and its syllabus.
