The Fontana Economic History of Europe is the first comprehensive survey of the subject to make its originál appearance in paperback. Volumes 1 to 4 take the story up to the beginning of the twentieth century while volumes 5 and 6 cover the last fifty years. The plan of the work, besides giving full weight to such traditional aspects of the subject as population, agriculture, trade, technology and fináncé allows for the treatment of topics too often neglected. Thus in each period the levels and pattern of demand are given a chapter to themselves. This volume, which complements Volume 3 The Industrial Revolution, deals with the impact of industrialisation on individual countries. It is divided, for convenience, into two parts published separately. In both parts consideration of the subject is not, as so often, limited to Britain, Germany, Francé, The Low Countries, which together with The Habsburg Empire and Italy form part 1, but extends to Russia, Spain, Switzerland and the Nordic...
