The main objective of this four volume work is to provide the analytical chemist with a practical text as well as a literature source of selected descriptive chromatog raphic procedures, and to place additional priority on those methods that may be utilized in a general sense, beyond the analysis of a specific toxicant per se. It is devoted to the elaboration of chromatographic procedures (primarily thin-layer, gas-liquid and paper) that relate to the analyses of a broad spectrum of synthetic and naturally-occurring toxicants that are of critical significance to the health of man and animal alike. Toxicants such as pesticides, drugs, food and feed additives, and industrial chemicals are considered within the broader framework of their methods of preparation, areas of utility, biochemistry, metabolism and toxicity, and thus are of importance to additional investigation into other areas such as toxicology, pharmacology, biology, genetics and environmental medicine and health.
The present volume centers on toxicants of carcinogenic, mutagenic and teratogenic environmental significance with particular focus on those which are pesticides, food and feed additives, drugs and alkylating agentsof industrial utility. The second and third volumes will stress air, water, industrial pollutants, metals and pesticide residues, and the last will be concerned with drugs covering the areas of narcotics, psychotropic agents, hallucinogens, tranquillizers and analgesics.
