Fülszöveg

This self-contained introduction and guide to the science and technology of polymer materials is written at the level of the undergraduate or other advanced student. It is intended to appeal in particular to the engineering or technology student who does not have an extensive knowledge of chemistry. It will also appeal to the technologist, engineer or scientist who seeks a broad view of polymer materi.^s based on scientific principles.
The first two chapters establish the industrial context and describe the molecular structures of polymers and the morphology of the solid materials.
Chapters 3, 4 and 5 deal systematically with the mechanical, thermal, electrical, optical and chemical properties of polymer materials. These properties govern the use of polymers in engineering and their scientific basis is described. Chapter 5 on chemical properties includes discussions of permeability, degradation and fire behaviour.
The book concludes with a chapter on the technology of polymers,... Tovább

The book concludes with a chapter on the technology of polymers, covering the production and properties of commercial materials in the form of plastics, rubbers, adhesives, coatings and fibres. There is an appendix on polymer nomenclature.
Christopher Hall carried out research in magnetic resonance spectroscopy at the University of Oxford, for which he was awarded a D.Phil. In 1970. In 1972 he was appointed Lecturer in building at the University of Manchester institute of Science and Technology, with special interests in the scientific study of non-metallic materials. He is the author of many papers in physical chemistry and materials science and technology. Vissza
