"The Christian Arabs, organized in a variety of denominations, constitute today no more than a small minority in the predominantly Muslim Arab World. Yet they have historically enjoyed - and continue to enjoy - an importance out of all proportion to their numbers. With the wave of religious fundamentalism currently sweeping the Muslim world, there has been much speculation about their future. Such speculation, however, has hitherto failed to take adequate account of the Christian Arab historical record.

The wealth of information this small book provides, and the lucidity with which it tackles the complexities of die historical and theological issues involved, recommend it as essential reading for anyone seeking an all-round understanding of the subject."
Albrecht Noth
Recently founded in Amman, Jordan, by HRH Crown Prince El Hassan Bin Talal, the Royal Institute for Inter-Faith Studies aims to promote Muslim understanding of Christianity and Christian understanding of Islam, its ultimate objective being to serve as a forum for scholarly interaction between the three great monotheisms. The present book, authored by the founder of the Institute, is its inaugural publication.
The design of the dust jacket features passages from the Sermon on the Mount in Syriac Estrangelo print, taken from the Peshitta, the principal Syriac version of the Bible. Vissza
