Dogs of Character
This book is about ordinary dogs - dogs of character. In particular it charts the lives of Cracker and Micky, one an Irish Wolfhound, the other a Bull terrier. Cecil Aldin 1870-1935
Cecil Aldin was born in Slough, the son of a builder. He achieved early success as a comic artist and in his lifetime he illustrated countless books and periodicals. His pictures were nearly always of sport, dogs and the hunting field. As he wrote in his autobiography, "Art for the true artist must have a capital 'A'.
For me, I am ashamed to say, it has had rather a small one for my painting has always been founded on substrata of hunting possibilities, that is to say it has had to provide me with the wherewithal to enable me to hunt". Vissza
