The colonial period brough to Nueva Granada, the original Spanish name for what today is Colombia, basic ideas about taking possession of the countryside and was at the same time obliged to adapt those ideas to a new environment where much was yet to be discovered. An authentic Neo-Granadian hacienda house developed, which no longer copied the style of the country houses in Andalucia or La Mancha, but which assumed new characteristic adapted to the landscape of the New World.
