Cardiology is a subject that is often poorly understood and consequently feared by many students and junior doctors. Listening to and interpreting heart sounds is a new and often bewildering task, and other investigations such as the ECG can be perceived as being difficult to nnaster. However, the subject is centred around physiological and pharmacological principles with which all students and doctors are familiar from an early stage in their training. Cardiology Explained provides a text that recaps those principles and uses them to explain, in clear language and with clear diagrams and clinical illustrations, the common cardiovascular diseases, their presentation, diagnosis and treatment. The text also includes case histories to illustrate certain points.
