This volume is part of the proceedings of the annual meeting of the American Section of the International Society for Heart Research (ISHR) held at Hilton Head, South Carolina, September 21-24, 1983. One of the highlights of the meeting was a three-part program organized on calcium antagonistic drugs. This book puts these three parts, dealing with calcium antagonist actions and mechanisms of action, into one coherent volume.
The first part—the basic science session—covered the mechanisms of action of this class of drugs on cardiac muscle and vascular smooth muscle, and the second part—the clinical science session—covered the cardiovascular actions of these drugs in intact animals and patients. The third part—the poster session —presented additional experimental results with the compounds on cardiac muscle, vascular muscle, and blood platelets.
