This country is wonderfully rich in the number of historic and stately houses that it possesses. They provide a living monument to the events of past centuries during the rise of our country to greatness. It is, therefore, only right and proper that where possible the public should have access to them. This great Tudor house, steeped in history and in its beautiful setting of parkland and ancient trees, has been open to the public in a limited way for somé two centuries, but arrangements have now been made for it to be on view several days a week. As you will appreciate, it is impossible in the limited space of this guide book to depict and describe more than a small proportion of the treasures here, but we have tried to include in it a cross section of the most interesting, and trust that it will be a happy mementó of your visit to Burghley.
