BOSTON
A PICTURE BOOK TO REMEMBER HER BY
Over 125 Color Photographs
On what was once a marsh-ridden peninsula, settled in 1630 by Puritan Englishmen of the Massachusetts Bay Company lies Boston, a major seaport and the cultural, commercial and industrial centre of New England. Boston today is a modern city containing some of the most advanced architecture and grandiose civic projects in the world, but it is also a cultural seat, the 'Athens of America' and the home of the famous Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Museum of Fine Arts, Harvard University and the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology. It is a city steeped in schools, colleges, research centres and cultural institutions, a metropolis in which learning is the principal industry.
Above all however, it is the lure of history that draws visitors from far and wide to the place where they can follow in the tracks of Paul Revere and visit the site of the Boston Tea Party or the spot where radicals like John Hancock and Samuel Adams incited the colonists to revolution. The memories and the monuments of a colourful past have been carefully preserved and cherished so that beside the soaring samples of contemporary 'New Boston! centuries-old meeting houses still stand unchanged. The result is a unique atmosphere that combines all the excitement of the 'big city' with a pace that is positively relaxing. This book with its beautiful colour photographs has captured that atmosphere in a unique record of both the modern and the historical face of Boston. Vissza
