When the first conference in the Stockholm International Forum series was being organised in the late iggos, there was great uncertainty about the potential international response. After World War II, even 55 years after the Holocaust, no conference at international political level had dealt with the question of Holocaust remembrance.
In this book, Beyond the 'Never Agains', we meet 18 men and women, experienced and knowledgeable experts, all of whom participated in at least one of the Stockholm International Forum (SIF) conferences. We asked their honest opinion about developments on somé of the most burning issues for the future.
During the conferences, Stockholm became a meeting place for politicians, decision makers and somé of the world's foremost specialists on genocide and other crimes against humanity, as well as representatives of a rangé of organizations. People who had themselves survived persecution and violation, including during the Holocaust and the genocides in Rwanda and Cambodia, alsó shared their experiences.
The conferences within the series focused on:
The Holocaust - Education, Remembrance and Research, 2000
Combating Intolerance, 2001
Truth Justice and Reconciliation, 2002
Preventing Genocide - Threats and Responsibilities, 2004.
This book comes with a CD containing full documentation of the four conferences. The book aims to reflect the spirit of the conferences but alsó to show that the issues raised are still - and must remain - on the agenda of the international community. Otherwise we will never be able to say 'Never Again'.
