Komen for the Cure is the world's largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists keeping the promise to empower people, ensure quality care for all, and energize science to fight this disease. Thanks to efforts like Words for the Cure, Komen for the Cure has invested nearly $ I billion to fulfill that promise, becoming the largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world. On this 25 th anniversary, Komen is renewing that commitment to finding a cure.
Anyone can get hreast cancer
• Although most people can take steps to lower their risk of the disease, no one has full control over whether they get breast cancer.
• Because the cause of breast cancer is not fully known, there is no way to absolutely prevent it.
• Other than being female, most women who set breast cancer have no known risk factors.

Susan G. Komen for the Cure recommends
the following screening guidelines:
• Mammograms every year starting at age 40
• Women under 40 with a family history of breast cancer or other concerns should talk with a health care provider. Screening tests may be needed more often and/or started earlier
• Clinical breast exams by a health care provider at least every three years starting at age 20 and every year after 40
