This series gives the classroom teacher a guide to the practice of key aspects of language teaching, and considers some of the underlying concepts. In each book an introduction presenting important current issues in the area under consideration is followed by examples and discussion of actual classroom materials and techniques.
Beginners contains over 100 original, ready-to-use activities for beginners' classes. These include activities for both absolute and 'false' beginners, and for adults and children.
This book demonstrates that activities for beginners can be stimulating and communicative. It includes ideas for first lessons, basic vocabulary and language, a chapter on 'Firsts' which helps to build up learners' confidence, imaginative adaptations of games for the beginners' class, and ways of encouraging learners to interact with native speakers and improve their English outside the classroom. Peter Grundy has over twenty years' experience of language teaching and teacher training. Since 1979 he has been a lecturer at the University of Durham, where he teaches applied and theoretical linguistics and English for Academic Purposes. He is currently on leave of absence from Durham, teaching at Hong Kong Polytechnic Universitv. Vissza
