Kenya is justly famous throughout the world for the beauty and variety of its birdlife, and bird safaris are a regular feature of the tourist scene. Out of a total of 1 1,750 bird species to be found in Africa south of the 1 Sahara, Kenya alone is represented by as many as 1,054 8 species, thus making it the country with the richest avifauna of any on the Afričan continent.
In what quickly became an all-consuming hobby, the author has devoted many years to the study and photography of wildlife, with particular emphasis in recent years on birds. Seven absorbing chapters, each devoted to a different habitat, contain information about why the flamingos come and go from Lake Nakuru; why the Great Rift Valley, an end result of 1 volcanic upheavals in ages past, has two freshwater lakes $ situated in it; how the cuckoo parasitizes a robin chat's g nest; and many other fascinating facts.
