The BBC English Dictionary has been prepared by the COBUILD team at the University of Birmingham, under the editorship of Professor John Sinclair. The content of the dictionary is base^on the Siialysis of over seventy million words of broadcasting output from 1988 to the present day. This consists of news, current affairs and sports broadcasts from the BBC World Service in London and National Public Radio in Washington.
The analysis of this data has given new insights into current English usage and will be of particular value to non-native speakers and learners of English.
All words are explained simply and naturally Mth real English examples taken from broadcasts. The dictionary provides grammatical information and guidance on pronunciation.
