Introducing Israel
JOAN COMAY
For many centuries pilgrims have visited the Holy Land: now the emergence of the State of Israel has added a fresh dimension of interest for the visitor. New residential and holiday centres have been built, new archaeological discoveries have been made, new industries have been started and, most striking change of all, fertile farmland has been created out of barren desert.
Joan Comay writes informatively and enthusiastically about the ancient history and modern development of this tiny country. She draws a vivid portrait of the new 'international' nation whose homeland this now is and the institutions it has inherited and created. The second part of the book guides the traveller 'From Dan to Eilat', setting towns and villages, hills and plains in the perspective of Biblical and modern events and describing landscape and buildings as they are now to be seen. The final section offers the tourist a wide range of practical...

The second part of the book guides the traveller 'From Dan to Eilat', setting towns and villages, hills and plains in the perspective of Biblical and modern events and describing landscape and buildings as they are now to be seen. The final section offers the tourist a wide range of practical information and imaginative hints for making the best of a holiday in Israel.

Introducing America
BARBARA KREUTZ and ELLEN FLEMING
As an increasing number of travellers go further and further afield, so the Introducing series is being expanded and adapted to keep ahead of the demand for intelligent guide books.
The United States of America is too vast for a complete guide to be more than perfunctory. So Barbara Kreutz and Ellen Fleming are selective. In this book the traveller to America will find all the general information he needs. Also, whether he is trading, teaching, negotiating, or simply enjoying himself, he will find lively detailed chapters on the areas he is most likely to visit. New York, Boston, Chicago, Washington, New England, the Deep South and California: these are of course included. But the nine regional chapters give a remarkably wide coverage of less well-known parts.
The authors, one British, one American, have first-hand knowledge of most of the places they discuss. They have travelled extensively by car, bus, train, plane and horse, with and without their families. They assume in their readers a reasonable amount of travel-sophistication combined with a considerable ignorance of the intricacies of the American way of life. To combat the latter they conclude each chapter with some unusual, but indispensable, special knowledge. This is a practical book for the journey, and also one to be enjoyed by the armchair traveller.
