it really true, Daddy?" Ann asked unbelievingly.
I Mr. Kennedy laughed. A "Yes—it is true."
"Oh, Daddy—you're trumps!" Ann flung her arms round his neck.
"By ourselves?" Peter demanded.
"Yes—-just the two of you."
"Oh, Mummy—it's too good to be true," Ann sighed. Mrs. Kennedy smiled.
"We had a letter from Mr. and Mrs. Wassink this morning asking whether the two of you would like to come and stay with them in Holland," she explained. "They wrote that Marijke and Diederik hoped that Daddy and I would let you go."
"And you will, won't you?" both asked simultaneously.
"Of course we will—-we promised you years ago that when you were old enough you could go abroad by yourselves."
"I'm fourteen now," Ann said. "And I'm twelve and a half," Peter added proudly.
"Quite old enough!"
"Are we going from Harwich by the Hook boat?" Ann tossed her dark plaits, a habit of hers when she was excited.
"Yes—I think that will be the best route," her father replied.
"When?"
"Today week—how does that suit you?"
