This remarkable book falls into two mainparts. The firstpart (i.e. Parts II and III, Part I being of an introductory character) describes the 'experiment'; the second part (i.e. Parts IV and V) gives the 'explanation'.
The experiment consisted of a series of close observations of dreams—principally those of the author. These observations ap-peared to prove conclusively that the dreamer was often aware of events (not necessarily in the least important) which occurred in his waking life after he had dreamed about them.
The explanation put forward by the author involved a new conception of the nature of time. Time, upon his theory, is not just a fourth dimension added to the three dimensions of space. It is an infinite series of dimensions, in-volving the existence of an infinite series of observers—a series which stretches out, so to speak, behind each man's workaday self.
