JLhe United States of America is such a
composite and complex reality that it would be
impossible to classify it using clear-cut categories.
There is a working America, consisting of world-

with the break-up of the family and the America
that is attempting to regain higher values through
the proliferation of numerous religious sects, the
healthy and slightly coarse America of the rodeo
and great sporting events and the America that
"burns up" its young generations.
The United States is a cross section of a varied
humanity of opposing characteristics overlapping in
an often contradictory fashion. America is
everything and the opposite of everything, and if
we were to play the game of free association
beginning with the words "United States of
America," it would be very difficult to predict how
many would say "Manhattan" and how many
would say "Grand Canyon."
