"NEW OFFICIAL GUIDE:

mine of useful information.
It should prove an indispen-
sable reference for all who
wish to know the latest and
most authentic information
atfout Japan, as well as a most
reliable companion to the
visitor to these shores.
Besides a thousand and one
facts of tourist interest, the
book contains information on
even the tiniest village and the
oldest temple lying in the re-
mote corners of the country.
This new guidebook is di-
vided into two parts. The first
part gives general information
on Japan. It deals with such
matters as routes to Japan;
(Continued on back flap)
seasonal attractions and an-
nual functions; passport and
visa regulations; entry and
exit formalities; hotels and
ryokan; dining and shopping;
national parks and hot springs;
the government and the peo-
ple; the language, history and
religion of the people; and
such aspects of culture as lit-
erature, drama (with detailed
comments on the no, the pup-
pet play, and the kabuki),
movies, music, sports, gardens,
the tea ceremony and flower
arrangement; and itinerary
plans.
The second part gives travel
information about Japan, with
the country divided into eight
sections: Honshu, the largest
island of Japan, comprising
five sections, under the head-
ings of East Central, Central,
West Central, Western and
Northeastern Honshu; the In-
land Sea and Shikoku; Kyu-
shu; and Hokkaido.
The guidebook is outstand-
ing for its excellent maps.
Altogether, the book contains
85 maps and plans, 39 in
color and 46 in black and
white.
The detailed index will, it
is hoped, prove a help to the
user in finding the answer to
any question he may ask about
things Japanese. Vissza
