About this book
POIROT INVESTIGATES comprises eleven cases of Hercule Poirot, Agatha Christie's Belgian detective. The titles of the chapters give an idea of the exciting mysteries she describes—for example, "The Adventure of the Western Star" introduces us to a film actress and a remarkable diamond; "The Tragedy of Marsdon Manor" tells of the death of a man who had first insured his life for L50,000; "The Adventure of the Cheap Flat" chronicles a curious chain of circumstances leading from apparently trivial incidents to the sinister happenings which completed a most unusual case; "The Adventure of the Egyptian Tomb" records Poirot's investigation of a strange series of deaths following on the discovery and opening of a royal tomb; "The Kidnapped Prime Minister" reveals the part Poirot played at a moment of national crisis.
Agatha Christie has now written between fifty and sixty detective stories. Her technique is superb; she never cheats, though she admits that she sometimes... Tovább

Her technique is superb; she never cheats, though she admits that she sometimes says "things that can be taken two ways". She created the character of Hercule Poirot in The Mysterious Affair at Styles (now a PAN Book) that caused no stir when it was first published in 1920; he has become the most popular detective in crime fiction since Conan Doyle created Sherlock Holmes. The wife of a distinguished archaeologist (Professor Max Mallowan of London University), Agatha Christie assists him in his excavations in Iraq, where he has made remarkable discoveries. As a dramatist, she has written several highly successful thriller plays. Vissza
