THIS IS PRIMARILY A picture book, but it is not just a book of pictures.
It illustrates in half-tone and colour, 170 different subjects of widely different kind^, as they were seen by the painter. It brings its reader into contact with people and places he may never visit, and the painter interprets for him the spirit of the scene. From the picture he may even see more than a personal visit would have shown him, for the artist is trained to see, and his art lies in his ppwer to portray the essence of what he sees.
The text is as interesting as the pictures. Through it the ! ' reader is introduced to the painters, and learns something of their outlook and their likes and dislikes, their aims and the people who have influ' enced them. They are introduced by Mr. Adrian Bury, himself a well-known painter^ and the author of " The Studio's " companion work Watet'Colour Painting of To-day,,published a year ago.
