A brilliant chronicle by one of the great historians
An abridged version of his classic shidy Trevelyan's A Shortened History of England tells the story of the nation from the remote days of the Celt and the Iberian, through the raids of the Vikings, the Norman conquest, the hrst Elizabethan age and foundation of the Indian Empire to the First World War and the setting-up of the League of Nations.
'Of the future,' Trevelyan comments,'the historian can see no more than others. He can only point like a shovmian to the things of the past, with their manifold and mysterious message.'
