Revised Edition H. G. Weils's A Short History of the World is meant, as the author says in his preface, to be read straightforwardly almost as a növel is read. It gives in the most generál way an account of ougpresent knowledge of history, shorn of elaborations and complications. From it the reader should be able to get that generál view of history which is so necessary a framework for the study of a particular country. But its special end is to meet the needs of the busy generál reader, who wishes to refresh and repair his faded or fragmentary conceptions of the great adventure of mankind. This revised edition was prepared by Professor G. P. Wells, the son of H. G. Wells, and Raymond Postgate. The earlier chapters have been revised, and five new chapters have been written on the history of the world in our own times. The originál twenty maps have been redrawn and two new maps added.
