Lukács Revalued* Edited by Agnes Heller
George Lukács was one of the most outstanding Marxist theorists of this century, but in the past decade his work has been neglected. The distinguished contributors to this book, as former pupils and colleagues of Lukács, write from a uniquely privileged standpoint. The essays have an intellectual intimacy and familiarity with their subject which could not be equalled elsewhere. Those interested in radical philosophy or social and literary theory will find this a perceptive, authoritative and timely reassessment.
Dictatorship over Needs*
Ferenc Fehér, Agnes Heller and György Márkus

Dictatorship over Needs*
Ferenc Fehér, Agnes Heller and György Márkus
In this book three prominent members of the Budapest School present an analysis which is at once a personal statement and an authoritative critique of Soviet-dominated regimes. Within a Marxist, though not Leninist, framework the authors discuss the dynamics of the system they define as the "dictatorship over needs". The book explores the failure of Eastern European communism to meet the Marxian ideal, and explains why the system has not been overthrown.
Dialectic of Nihilism Post-Structuralism and Law Gillian Rose
This book fundamentally challenges the radical credentials of post-structuralism. Gillian Rose shows that the anti-metaphysical writing of Derrida, Foucault and Deleuze, among others, always appears in historically specific jurisprudential terms, which themselves found and recapitulate metaphysical categories. She reconsiders post-structuralism in this light and assesses the relationship between deconstruction and the earlier structuralism of Saussure and Lévi-Strauss, arguing in conclusion that the choice between post-structuralist nihilism and Hegelian and Marxist dialectic is spurious.
