Rivers is Professor of Románcé Languages and Coordinator of Language Instruction in the Románcé Languages at Harvard University. In addition to the other Practical Guides, she is the author of The Psychologist and the Foreign-Language Teacher (1964), Teaching Foreign-Language Skills (1968), Speaking in Many Tongues (1972; expanded 2nd Ed. 1976), and numerous articles. Mary Sleator Temperley has a Ph.D. in linguistics and has taught English as a Second Language in Greece and at the University of Illinois, where she has alsó designed and taught courses in linguistics and English language teaching.
