This new book about the famous McMichael
Canadian Collection in Kleinburg carries all the
impact of its highly acclaimed predecessor,
A Vision of Canada. A completely new chapter
on the Woodland Indians has been added, and
sections on other indigenous Canadian cul-
tures have been considerably expanded. A new
introduction covers more fully the philosophy
and history of the collection, and the works of art
contained in it.
Vital Indian and Eskimo creations are pre-
sented alongside the work of the Group of
Seven and their contemporaries. Masks and
totems from the West Coast, stone carvings
from the Arctic, magnificent landscapes of the
Canadian wilderness, all combine to provide a
rich record of our artistic heritage.
The book contains 1076 reproductions in black
and white and 126 in full colour. Each facet of
the collection is described by an expert, and
sixteen individual biographies with full colour
portraits of each artist by Joachim Gauthier
supplement the text.
This new presentation of the McMichael
Canadian Collection will be welcomed as
a handsome private gallery that is a
testimony to Canada's artistic heritage.
