The importance of the Millennial Celebrations of 1896, which marked 1,000 years in the history of the Magyar people, is noted as well as the impact of Hungary's participation in International Exhibitions of the period. Architects such as Ödön Lechner and Béla Lajta are represented, as are major artists including Csontváry, Gulácsy, Rippl-Rónai, and Vaszary, alongside the work of the Gödöllő Colony and the artists' community at Nagybánya.
A GOLDEN AGE: ART AND SOCIETY IN HUNGARY 1896-1914 has been compiled by art historians Gyöngyi Éri and Zsuzsa Jobbágyi with essays by contributors Iván T. Berend, Lajos Németh and Ilona Sármány-Parsons.
