He alsó provides the latest data on fertility and infant mortality. There is a new section on migration, an emerging issue for rich and poor countries alike. The discussion of America is completely rewritten to give a fuller view of the past, including reference to the slave trade, and coverage of China has been expanded. The bibliography is alsó updated. Massimo Livi-Bacci is Professor of Demography at the University of Florence. He has been President of the International Union for the Scientific Study of Population. He has published extensively on contemporary demography as weil as on the history of population, and has taught or held fellowships at universities all over the world, including the Collége de Francé, the Colegio de México, Princeton University of California at Berkeley, and Brown University, Providence, Rí.
