Twice John Haffert's passion for the sea has stood him in good stead. His half-hour T.V. interview with the late President Kennedy may be the best single half hour the President ever put on film "because I was lucky enough to talk to him about boats before world problems." Then after he had been debating with himself for several years on how to write "The World's Greatest Secret" the answer came to him at the bottom of the sea off a West Indies island.
"I was not worthy to write the book," he said;, "and why should I dare?"
"When I went to Rome I had a suitcase full of research material. Most of the writing was done at night. It was a subject frightening in its importance, but it finally emerged directly, simply. Perhaps the reason no such book was ever written before is because we have all worried too much about the difficulties. And the difficulties fade when we face the world's greatest secret with a sincere desire to grasp it."
